Michigan hospitals affected by GM's bankruptcy

Across the nation, hospitals are feeling the effects of the economic recession. The auto industry has been especially hard hit, and motor city hospitals are struggling to keep up, according to a June 12 Detroit Free Press article. For hospital employees, such as medical staff services professionals, this means facing cuts such as a reduction or restructuring in work force.
“There are no good figures on how much of a hospital's revenue comes from the auto industry. But Jack Weiner, CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, said as much as 7%-9% of his hospital's budget comes from services to autoworkers,” according to the article.
