When it comes time to review credentialing applications, do you hand committee members a stack of file folders so thick it would make a forest ranger groan in frustration? Try developing an electronic version of those files. The following are some ways to ease the transition from paper to electronic:
- To assist with privacy concerns, put the data on a password protected drive that only members of the credentials committee can access.
- To aid non-tech savvy committee members navigate unfamiliar software programs give them a tip sheet explaining how to use program features such as increasing font size and highlighting text. (Tip sheets are meant to be user friendly, so if your committee member is really technology challenged, go the extra mile and give him or her a paper copy of the tip sheet.)
- To help maintain a sense of continuity, give committee members the electronic files at the same time you would give them paper files. If the files live on a database that may be accessed at any time, it is a good idea to email committee members a reminder to check the database.
