The credentialing cash flow

Dear readers,
Lately I’ve been thinking about the price of credentialing. Not in ethical terms, as in credentialing is priceless because it protects patients from bad doctors, but in terms of cold hard cash. I’ve had several conversations with MSPs who’ve spoken about the rising cost of performing verifications.
Yet the rising costs of doing business can be a two way street. One the one side, our society tends to take things more seriously the more expensive they are. Case in point: professional athletes. Perhaps if credentialing starts taking up a bigger spot on the hospital budget, others in the organization will begin to take it more seriously than they have in the past.
On the other side of the street, expenses can be burdensome, especially when the money coming in doesn’t quite match the money going out. This may be a scenario that hits home for many MSPs as medical staffs demand more of everything on the same old shoestring budget.
If the cost of doing business is a two way street, then the medical services profession is standing in the middle. How long will it take to cross over to the other side?
Sincerely,
Emily Berry, associate editor
