Last week’s column gave tips for interoffice networking to save time and build relationships. Several readers wrote in to share their own advice and suggestions:
“How true it is that we need to relate with our co-workers. One of the things we do is have a pizza party about once per month. We contact people we regularly deal with (i.e. information service, PI, physician recruitment, etc.) and order pizza. Everyone pays their share, and we have a great time just talking. Usually, this is how we honor birthdays if there are any—everyone pitches in and the birthday person doesn’t have to pay their share. Also, the medical records department holds pot-lucks, and we pitch in. Food is always a great way to connect!”
“It’s also helpful to get on work teams or projects in your hospital. Although it may not directly relate to you, it will help you understand other departments’ work and views and, therefore, assist you in helping them learn about the medical staff and MSPs. Also, volunteer at hospital functions. This goes a LONG way with leadership. They note who volunteers and more importantly who doesn’t.”
