No changes to primary source verification requirements in new Joint Commission standards

Credentialing & Verification Update, January 12, 2009

Recent changes to Joint Commission hospital accreditation standards, as part of its application to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), do not change the requirements for conducing primary source verification of medical staff applicants.

The new standards were released January 5, 2009, but went into effect January 1, 2009. These requirements will not be scored, however, until July 2009.
