Tip of the week: Outline your application process in bylaws or associated documents

Medical staff bylaws or associated documents should contain a provision for how applications are processed, including timeframes for completion. Joint Commission standards require a clearly documented procedure for the processing of requests for initial grants, renewals, or revision of privileges. In addition, they require timely completion of the credentialing and privileging process, as well as action on completed privilege applications within the time period specified in the bylaws.
