As the official representative of the hospital, the CEO is actively involved in the credentialing and privileging process. He or she is a member of the medical executive committee and attends governing board meetings or sits on the governing board. The CEO is responsible for notifying applicants of the governing board’s final decision regarding the granting of membership and clinical privileges. The CEO is usually the key contact person in the event of mediation or a hearing and appeal.
This week’s question is from The Credentialing Coordinator’s Handbook, by Anne Roberts, CPMSM, CPCS.
