Transparency continues to be a trend for state medical boards creating online practitioner profiles accessible by the public, according to a December 8 AMNews article. Massachusetts was the first state to require its medical board to disclose physician profiles online over a decade ago. Today the board has about 31,000 profiles posted and receives 6.5 million visits annually.

Information included on state medical board profiles include board disciplinary actions, malpractice data, and criminal convictions.
