In many states, the laws addressing hospital licensing describe which providers can admit patients. Some allow only licensed physicians to do so, and some allow podiatrists, chiropractors, dentists, and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to admit. It is important for the medical staff to define which LIPs may be granted privileges to admit patients to the hospital. In addition, some physicians may have privileges limited to consultative services only.
