Joint Commission FAQ clarifies need for primary source verification

Credentialing & Verification Update, November 25, 2008

In a new “frequently asked questions” (FAQ) about its 2009 healthcare accreditation standards, The Joint Commission clarifies that primary source verification is required only to verify licensure, certification, or registration required to practice a profession, and not for additional requirements such as such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).

The Joint Commission has posted answers to common questions about verification and credentialing and all other standards on its Web site. The FAQ relating to the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (CAMH) can be accessed here: http://www.jointcommission.org/AccreditationPrograms/Hospitals/Standards/09_FAQs/
