Tip of the week: Know your state medical board’s criminal background check policy

About half of state medical boards conduct criminal background checks on practitioners before deciding to issue a medical license, according to data from the Federation of State Medical Boards. If your medical staff is considering implementing these checks, it may want to find out if it will duplicate the information collected by the medical board.
