When a practitioner makes a privileging request in order to use a new technology or procedure, the medical staff will likely ask how profitable the new procedure will be. One way to assess profitability is finding out whether the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will pay for it.
CMS recently proposed revising its coverage of Bariatric surgery as a diabetes treatment, according to a November 17 press release. The agency proposed to not cover bariatric surgery for patients who do not meet the definition of morbid obesity, but do have type 2 diabetes.
