Prepare for your next survey with mock inspections, file reviews
Credentialing & Verification Update, November 18, 2008
Massachusetts General Hospital is getting ready for its next Joint Commission survey after the hospital fared poorly in its last inspection. Mass. General recently hired consultants from the Greeley Company (a division of HCPro, Inc.) to perform a mock accreditation survey to help the hospital boost scores on its next real survey, which could occur anytime in the next 13 months.
If your organization isn’t hiring consultants to run a full-scale mock survey, you can prepare on your own for the portions of the survey that will examine your credentialing processes.
One way to do this is to randomly select a few credentialing files and comb through them with other medical staff professionals or credentialing committee members. Use the file reviews to identify any weaknesses in your credentialing processes and take steps to change those processes before your next surveyors arrive.
