The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) conditionally approved The Joint Commission’s deeming authority for critical access hospitals, according to the October 24 edition of the Federal Register. CMS identified a number of differences between its Conditions of Participation (CoP) and the Joint Commission standards, and is suspending deeming status until the standards are aligned with the CoPs.
The conditional notice gives The Joint Commission a 180-day probationary period through May 20, 2009. “We are confident that with additional time, the Joint Commission will make the necessary revision,” the Federal Register states.
