Medical school applications are down, but enrollment is up

Credentialing & Verification Update, October 28, 2008

The Wall Street Journal reports that getting into medical school was just a tad less competitive this year. While slightly more students enrolled in U.S. medical schools (up 1.6%), there were slightly fewer applicants overall (down 0.2%). The report speculates that medical school enrollment may continue to increase as new medical schools open and as tough economic times potentially lead students to pursue careers in healthcare over other sectors.
