NCQA to prohibit pencil in certification documentation

Credentialing & Verification Update, September 30, 2008

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has announced that effective January 1, 2009, pencil will no longer be approved as an acceptable writing instrument for accreditation or certification documentation purposes.

Credentialers adhering to NCQA standards should make sure it is their organization's policy that all documentation is completed either in pen or using a word processor.
