As specified in its bylaws (according to Joint Commission standard MS.4.45 and MS.4.80), the medical staff evaluates and acts on reported concerns regarding the clinical practice or competence of a privileged practitioner. This includes evaluation of the credibility of a complaint, investigation, allegation, or concern made against an LIP. The organization must define the process used for collecting, investigating, and addressing clinical practice concerns regarding privileged practitioners. This process must be based on recommendations by the medical staff and approval of the governing body. Reported concerns regarding the professional practice of a privileged practitioner must be consistently investigated and addressed.
