Throughout the summer The Joint Commission has been updating its Web site with the 2009 National Patient Safety Goals, proposed standards, and information about the new survey scoring process. Although you may know about these updates, do your medical staff members?
One way to educate them is by creating a power point presentation that includes this information. You can deliver a formal presentation of this information during a medical staff committee meeting or you can run this information on a loop before and after the meeting.
This week’s tip is from Kathy Matzka, CPMSM, CPCS, a national medical staff consultant based in Lebanon, IL. For more of her tips, check out the November issue of Briefings on Credentialing (www.online-crc.com), which will feature an in-depth article about the 2009 Joint Commission updates.
