Earlier this month we asked readers how often their medical staff conducts ongoing professional practice evaluations (OPPE). Here’s what you had to say:
“We are a 120-bed facility with 14 active staff members and 35 courtesy staff and we received a supplemental for doing this one time a year. We are now doing it every six months which was what our surveyor recommended. Also she said while we gathered some good information, it needed to be more specific to the specialty and we didn't have a formal meeting to review what was gathered and that was what was expected. We were surveyed 01/08 and just had our first meeting with dept chairs reviewing and signing off on the info, so I hope that is enough.”
“We had wanted to conduct OPPE every year, so it would mirror our employee evaluation process. During survey, one of our surveyors told us that they were told by The Joint Commission leadership that 6–9 months would be the appropriate time frame. Not quite sure why it is okay for our employees to be done annually, but our docs more frequently!”
