The Joint Commission’s Standard Improvement Initiative, which will take effect January 1, 2009, features a renumbering and in some cases a restructuring of the standards. If you haven’t taken a look at the standards, don’t wait for the new year to do so. They’re available to the public online at http://www.jointcommission.org/Standards/SII/default.htm.
One area of note for medical staffs is the restructuring of HR.1.20 EP 13—the standard that addresses the credentialing and privileging of physicians assistants and advance practice nurses. Starting in 2009, the information found in HR.1.20 EP 13 is now in HR.01.02.05 EPs 10-14.
