It depends on the locum tenens staffing agency, but some offer services similar to a credentialing verification organization (CVO). “We provide two different levels of credentialing,” says Beverly Leonard, CPCS, vice president of operations for Weatherby Locums, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL. “We complete our internal credentialing process [when a physician initially joins the Weatherby group] and then we assist the hospital with their credentialing and privileging as needed,” says Leonard.
Although there may be additional fees attached to this service depending on the locums tenens agency or CVO, it could be advantageous because it may speed up the credentialing process and allow the MSP to focus on other responsibilities.
Editor’s note: This week’s ask the expert feature is the fourth of a five-part series of questions about locum tenens answered by Beverly Leonard, CPCS, vice president of operations for Weatherby Locums, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL. More locum tenens information is available in the July issue of Briefings on Credentialing, archived on www.online-crc.com.
