Yes, some locum tenens agencies work with a variety of specialists and are able to partner with hospitals to provide staffing solutions for ED call coverage, says Beverly Leonard, CPCS, vice president of operations for Weatherby Locums, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL. “It can be difficult for hospitals to ensure sufficient numbers of physicians who will take ED call in all the inpatient specialty services they provide, as required to meet [Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act] EMTALA obligations. Locum tenens can certainly be an option to consider,” says Leonard.
