It depends on the individual hospital or medical practice says Beverly Leonard, CPCS, vice president of operations for Weatherby Locums, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
The locum tenens arrangements made by Weatherby are similar to those made by other locum tenens staffing agencies. Leonard says that Weatherby often works directly with the hospital's in-house recruiting department to contract and arrange coverage if a locums physician is needed. Weatherby's external credentialing department works directly with the hospital's medical staff office to facilitate the hospital's privileging process and timeline. Regardless of which office is used as a main point of contact, Weatherby always works with the medical staff office when hospital privileges are required.
Editor’s note: This week’s ask the expert feature is the first of a five-part series of questions about locum tenens answered by Beverly Leonard, CPCS, vice president of operations for Weatherby Locums, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL. More locum tenens information is available in the July issue of Briefings on Credentialing, archived on www.online-crc.com.
