Office-based physicians had 26% less hospital visits from 2005-2006, compared with visits in 2001, according to a CRC study of office-based physicians released in April.
The study, “Characteristics of Office-Based Physicians and Their Practices: United States, 2005–2006,” offers a detailed description of office-based practitioners, but also provides insights to hospital care. For example, 9% of office-based practitioners reported providing emergency department care.
Other trends include an increase in the use of clinical health information technology, including computerized prescription order-entry.
