Immense economic, regulatory, and competitive pressures are driving some hospitals to close their doors and others to seek mergers. Still others are entering into af-filiation agreements with hospital networks to survive or are being bought by large chains.

A well-managed hospital is the most likely to survive and thrive in the current healthcare environment. The hospital’s medical staff, administration, and board members must have a common sense of service to the community, and all parties must work together to provide excellent patient care while maintaining an eye on the facility’s fiscal health.
