The chief executive officer (CEO) is an important part of the process. He or she attends medical executive committee meetings, and should be aware of the substantive discussion that has taken place regarding individual applications. He or she is an important resource as the board makes its final decision.
The CEO can also authorize temporary privileging credentials when the need arises, on behalf of the board, upon recommendation of the medical staff president.
