The Department of Health and Human Services launched its Hospital Compare Web site last week, which allows patients to search for reviews of hospitals at no charge. All short-term, acute-care, non-specialty hospitals were invited to participate in the survey that produced the results.
Patients who participated in the survey were asked questions ranging from hospital cleanliness to how well their physicians communicated with them. Consumers can tailor their search for reviews based on specific medical conditions and surgical procedures or geographically.
