Ask the expert: Does NQCA accept signature stamps for the attestation of an application?

No. While the NCQA requires that managed care organizations' applications and reapplications have an attestation signed by the practitioner indicating that the applicant personally attests to the application's correctness and completeness, it does not accept stamped signatures. However, it does accept signatures that are:

  • Faxed
  • Scanned
  • Digital
  • Electronic
  • Photocopied

If the applicant's final approval exceeds 365 days from the date of the signature, the applicant must reattest to the information being correct and complete. If the managed care organization's state requires the use of an application that does not contain an attestation, an addendum to the application for the attestation must be used unless state regulations prohibit the inclusion of an addendum. If this is the case, it is important for the organization to attach a copy of the relevant regulation when it submits the survey tool to NCQA.
