More and more healthcare organizations have adopted policies that require criminal background checks as part of their requirements for all employees, contractors, and medical and allied health professional staffs.
Some benefits of performing criminal background checks include the following:
- Catching high-risk individuals at the doors, through either the hiring process or the credentialing process
- Upholding the standards and expectations set by the general public and patients
- Reducing legal risks for the organization
More information about criminal background checks can be found in The Credentialing Coordinator's Handbook, by Anne Roberts, CPMSM, CPCS, available here.
