OIG audit of refugee medical assistance payments in Florida
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, November 6, 2007
The OIG performed an audit to determine whether the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) made Refugee Medical Assistance payments only on behalf of beneficiaries whose eligibility periods had not expired. They found that there were at least $226,028 payments made for beneficiaries whose eligibility periods had expired.
The OIG recommended that:
- DCF make a financial adjustment of $226,028 for the payments made on behalf of ineligible beneficiaries
- DCF make a financial adjustment of $58,510 for 24 beneficiaries whose dates of entry were not documented in case files
DCF generally agreed with the recommendations.
