Don't hesitate to follow up with an employee after the exit interview. If possible, interview the employee in person to determine the level of credibility of the complaint. Most employees who raise an issue in an exit interview are willing to discuss the issue with you, even after they have left the company. By interviewing the employee you can get a much stronger picture of the potential for a problem, and you can assure the employee that his or her concerns are well regarded and taken seriously. This will reduce the possibility that the employee will become a whistleblower and may even have a positive effect on the employee's comments about the company to others.
