Healthcare auditing and compliance professionals will be busy next year, says Jim Sheehan. As New York's first Medicaid inspector general, his office's primary focus is to seek out Medicaid fraud.

He's not alone. A host of other groups have Medicaid fraud high on their focus lists. Among them are:

  • The federal inspector general audit group
  • Contractors from the new CMS Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP)
  • Countywide pilot programs
  • Private attorneys
  • Whistleblowers

    And this deluge of Medicaid auditing activity is not unique to New York. It's happening across the country.
