Medicaid fraud settlement in Kentucky

Healthcare Auditing Weekly, October 23, 2007

Oral surgeon Dr. Peter R. Ciampa will pay more than $270,000 in a settlement after he was accused of Medicaid fraud in Kentucky. He was also sentenced to two one-year terms, probated to two years. Dr. Ciampa allegedly sent false claims from January 2001 to February 2004 to Medicaid for alveoloplasties with tooth extractions. These claims failed to comply with Kentucky payment rules.

"This case is yet another example of the cooperation between federal and state law enforcement in prosecuting healthcare fraud within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Working together, our offices will continue to vigorously pursue those who seek to abuse the Medicaid program," said U.S. Attorney David L. Huber.
