Anyone involved in the coding or billing of hospital outpatient services, particularly anyone involved in chargemaster maintenance, should carefully review the transmittal discussed below relating to the October 2007 Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) update. In addition to announcing numerous corrections and changes to the OPPS data files, the transmittal contains potential significant policy clarifications relating to (i) limitations on coding and billing for compounded drugs and (ii) limitations on separate billing of a drug or biological HCPCS code when the drug or biological was used with an implantable device.
