A Maryland cardiologist has agreed to repay $476,000 and enter into a corporate integrity agreement (CIA) to settle claims he fraudulently billed Medicare and the Federal Health Employees Health Benefits Program over a three and a half year period.
According to the settlement agreement, the government contends Srivastava committed multiple billing abuses from November 1, 1999, to May 31, 2003, including billing for services not rendered, unbundling, and upcoding.
In addition to the monetary settlement, Srivastava agreed to enter into a five-year CIA with the OIG. The CIA imposes compliance measures and ongoing monitoring to ensure the integrity of claims submitted by Srivastava to federal healthcare programs.
