It has always frustrated me that the Government Printing Office only updates the online version of the Code of Federal Regulations once a year even though new regulations are issued throughout the year. It was recently brought to my attention that the GPO publishes a separate Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (also called the e-CFR) that is updated on a daily basis to incorporate regulatory changes as they are announced in the Federal Register. I have been using the e-CFR for a few weeks and I am finding it quite helpful.
To access Title 42 (which include the Medicare regulations) of the e-CFR, click here.
To access the e-CFR through the HCProBootCamps "Coding and Billing Links" page, click here.
Thanks to Kathy Kenyon and Kimberly Hoy for bringing the e-CFR to my attention.
Correction Notice: A reader pointed out a typo in the July 24 edition of the Medicare Weekly Update. In that edition, I discussed in my Note from Hugh a transmittal CMS had released relating to the Present on Admission (POA) reporting requirement. I stated in my note that the effective date of the transmittal was January 1, 2007. That was incorrect. The correct effective date of the transmittal is January 1, 2008. The view the POA transmittal, click here.
