Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty
On June 29, CMS issued a transmittal revising the National Coverage Determinations (NCD) for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). The revision clarifies restrictions on the coverage of PTA with carotid stent placement for patients at high risk for carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The revision also clarifies the process that facilites must follow in order to obtain recertification to perform Medicare covered carotid artery stenting (CAS) procedures.
Effective Date: April 30, 2007
Implementation Date: July 30, 2007
