Vagus nerve stimulation for resistant depression
On June 22, CMS published two transmittals relating to the coverage of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). These transmittals announce that CMS has determined VNS is not medically necessary for the treatment of resistant depression and provides instructions for the billing of medically necessary VNS treatments.
Effective Date: May 4, 2007
Implementation Date: July 23, 2007
