Controversial medical school places another executive on "leave"
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, June 19, 2007
A top administrator at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) has been relieved of his duties, amid a new investigation into financial improprieties at the medical school.
Paul Mehne, 59, the associate dean for academic and student affairs who headed UMDNJ's Camden campus, was placed on paid administrative leave just weeks before he was set to retire.
A spokeswoman for the university would not say why Mehne was relieved of his duties on short notice, calling it a personnel issue. However, the federal monitor overseeing the university confirmed an ongoing investigation into what he called "alleged wrongdoing" at Camden.
