CMS announces plan for NPI data dissemination
On May 24, CMS released a data dissemination plan. This will make the NPI database available for download and electronic lookup via the Internet.

Revised 'Important Message from Medicare' released
On May 22, CMS posted the final version of the "Important Message from Medicare."
Beginning July 1, hospitals must deliver the revised "Important Message from Medicare" to Medicare beneficiaries who are hospital inpatients regarding their hospital discharge appeal rights.
It also posted an unofficial version of the "Detailed Notice of Discharge." It may only be used for training and programming purposes, according to CMS. CMS said a final version of the "Detailed Notice" should be published next week.

Medicare expands cardiac ultrasound coverage
On May 22, CMS published a decision memo announcing its intent to revise the National Coverage Determination (NCD) on ultrasound diagnostic procedures. The revision provides coverage for cardiac output Doppler monitoring in certain circumstances.
