Insurer makes changes to payment, reimbursement procedures

Healthcare Auditing Weekly, May 22, 2007

Aetna is changing its reimbursement procedures to expand on its transparency initiatives and to make billing and payment simpler for doctors.

Aetna's changes will allow physicians to submit claims electronically and more significantly. The insurer is also setting up a program that allows plan members to pay out-of-pocket expenses automatically through their debit or credit card.

Aetna also plans to begin offering doctors patient-volume guarantees and prepayments of projected physician claims.
