Blood brain barrier osmotic disruption not reasonable and necessary
On April 6, CMS issued a transmittal announcing that blood brain barrier osmotic disruption is not considered reasonable and necesssary when it is used as part of a treatment regimen for brain tumors in Medicare patients. This change affects claims with dates of service on and after March 20, 2007. It also does not affect the coverage of anti-cancer chemotherapy.
Effective Date: March 20, 2007
Implementation Date: May 7, 2007
