CMS extends expiration date of certain geographic classifications
CMS published in the March 23 Federal Register a notice announcing the extension of the expiration date for certain geographic reclassifications as implemented by the Tax Relief and Health Care Act. These geographic classifications were previously set to expire on March 31, 2007, and are now extended to September 30, 2007. The extension expires for outpatient services on September 30, 2007, which means that affected hospitals will have a different wage index for purposes of the outpatient prospective payment system from October 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007.
