Now that the beginning of the year has passed, it's time to focus on one major change that will affect how your healthcare facility documents its charges: the new UB-04.
The form traveled through four years of updates and changes, all of which made it more efficient and useful for hospitals across the country. The new UB-04 was the topic of HCPro's January 31 audioconference "Operationalizing the UB-04: Tested strategies to reduce risk and maintain compliance." During the audioconference, George Arges, senior director of the Health Data Management Group of the American Hospital Association in Chicago, explained the motives behind the changes made to the UB-92, which resulted in the UB-04.
