April 2007 update to the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System
On March 21, CMS issued a transmittal announcing revisions to the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System. The transmittal includes several important updates. Hospitals should review this transmittal to determine if any of the updates are applicable to their particular services.
Effective Date: April 1, 2007
Implementation Date: April 2, 2007

Extracorporeal Photopheresis
On March 16, CMS issued a transmittal announcing the expansion of coverage of extracorporeal photopheresis to include patients with acute cardiac allograft rejection and chronic graft versus host disease whose disease is refractory to standard immunosuppressive drug treatment. The expansion includes services provided on or after December 19, 2006.
Effective Date: December 19, 2006
Implementation Date: April 2, 2007
