Tip: Create a training compliance plan

Healthcare Auditing Weekly, March 20, 2007

A plan for compliance training can help ensure that every employee in your organization is trained on privacy and security policies and procedures. The plan should ensure that the training elements are established and are effective. Include these three compliance processes in your plan:

1. Annually review training resources, such as curriculums and materials, to ensure that they exist, are current with HIPAA standards, and are related specifically to organizational policies, procedures, and technology in use. Also check that there is a plan in place for training new hires and training all employees on policy changes.

2. Conduct ongoing reviews of training records to ensure that all members of your workforce have received training on a timely basis.

3. Whether certification of training is required or not, determine how well your workforce retains the information they learned during the training sessions by randomly surveying selected employees.
