The White Plains, NY-based Westchester Medical Center will likely spend millions in order to comply with a federal investigation into possible healthcare fraud at the hospital, the The Journal News reports.
Hospital officials say they have retained an outside law firm to help the hospital comply with a federal subpoena it received Jan. 31, the article states.
The subpoena asks for information dating back to 1997 in 37 categories, primarily related to the hospital's relationships with its doctors. Hospitals are not allowed to give doctors any inducement for patient referrals.
Officials say the hospital has made much progress in pulling the data together; however, the request was broad and it will take months before the task is completed.
