Four commonly used audit tools

Healthcare Auditing Weekly, March 6, 2007

Use these four common audit tools to make your job easier:

1. Case studies create discussion where questions or polling often allow for limited responses. The most effective case studies are those taken from actual events, often from news reports.

2. Record review may be anything from logs to audit trails to acknowledgement or request forms. Records may be the sole source of data, or may be a corroborating source.

3. A variety of test formats may be used to collect data. Tests include the social engineering security test, war dialing, war driving, vulnerability scans, or penetration tests.

4. Forensic analysis, in the context of information security, is a method used to investigate the various means a hacker would gain access to your network.
