Attorney General proposes pharmaceutical gift disclosure legislation

Marketing drugs in Connecticut may hinge on a requirement for pharmaceutical companies to disclose the gifts and other "financial incentives" they give to healthcare providers, according to legislation proposed by the state's attorney general earlier this month.
Under Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's proposed legislation, pharmaceutical companies would have to disclose the information to the Commissioner of Public Health. Failure to do so according to the proposal would result in a civil fine of up to $10,000, according to the AG's office.
Free samples, clinical trials compensation, and scholarship payments for students and resident physicians would be excluded from reporting requirements.
