State auditor to probe hospital’s IT services
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, February 5, 2007
Iowa state Auditor David Vaudt will investigate access to the University of Iowa (UI) Hospitals and Clinics' information services, the Daily Iowan reports.
"Our own investigation indicates that this was a case in which a university employee violated our policy on the acceptable use of information," UI interim President Gary Fethke told the Iowan. "However, the fact that this incident occurred in the administrative area of the hospital requires us to review whether our processes there can be improved to prevent future occurrences."
While school officials have dismissed the possibility of the breach coming from a hacker or virus, they did not comment on who they believe is responsible for the breach. Officials also would not say what information was comprimised, according to the article.
